One nursery, hundreds of ideas

In the heart of Sicily, one of Italy's most evocative and challenging regions for agriculture, stands a cutting-edge nursery that has made quality and innovation its trademark. An international leader in the production of nursery plants for the fruit and vegetable industry, it has been synonymous with excellence for years. Its commitment to research and selection of resistant plants, suitable for even the most extreme climatic conditions, has led it to collaborate with Idromeccanica Lucchini, a partner with the power of transforming vision into reality thanks to advanced solutions and integrated project management.

The Sicilian challenge: a partner with a vision for the future

Lucchini is often chosen as a strategic partner for its most ambitious projects, especially for its turnkey approach, which combines plant design and construction with a cutting-edge technological vision. In this case, the Sicilian client's request was clear: it needed a collaborator who could integrate fully data-driven Industry 4.0 solutions to ensure efficiency and precision at every level, from sowing to greenhouse management.

Lucchini's response was concrete and punctual, thanks to its ability to manage the entire project cycle: from the preliminary design to the complete implementation, including plants, ancillary works (such as warehouses, logistics and various utilities) and the ongoing management of the process, with constant performance monitoring and continuous technical support.

The greenhouse revolution: adapting to climate change

One of the distinguishing features of the project was the decision to build a greenhouse with specifications outside the traditional box, designed to adapt to the increasingly evident climate change. The client decided to embrace not only our project management model, but also (and above all) our vision of no longer following traditional practice in favour of an innovative paradigm shift for Sicilian agriculture. With the increasingly torrid climate, it was necessary to think of eclectic solutions capable of developing suitable cultivation parameters and favouring the growth of young seedlings even in such adverse climatic conditions. The choice of the greenhouse in question is not just a matter of aesthetics, but a practical and effective response to concrete environmental challenges.

The 4.0 project: equipment, control and precision

The real peculiarity of this collaboration lies in the integration of 4.0 technologies inside the greenhouse. Idromeccanica Lucchini has realised various technologically advanced systems for the management and monitoring of internal climate control, both active and passive. All this through systems controlling temperatures, natural and artificial lighting, ventilation, humidity and irrigation. In this way, we have the possibility of guaranteeing the ideal microclimate all year round according to cultivation needs regardless of the climatic conditions outside the greenhouse.

Another distinguishing feature is certainly the adoption of advanced irrigation technology, with fertigation and reverse osmosis systems to guarantee the plant quality water, perfect for its development. Each phase of the dosage of the various nutrients is managed in a sartorial and extremely technological manner, following scientific parameters for each moment of the day, divided into various sectors and production batches.

A ‘mastermind’ at the customer's service: strategic management and 24/7 support

We have been able to accompany the customer with continuous support, responding to every operational and strategic need, even in the most critical situations. Thanks to constant dialogue and an advanced monitoring system, Idromeccanica Lucchini's technicians are always ready to intervene in case of emergencies that could threaten production.

Not only that, Idromeccanica Lucchini put in place a monitoring system for all the steps related to sowing, germination and other intermediate steps of the cultivation process, ensuring that each phase of the project was aligned with the customer's global vision. This holistic approach maximized the efficiency and quality of the end product, leading to results that exceeded the highest expectations.

A project that looks to the future: vision and sustainability

This project is not only an example of how technology can transform agriculture, but also how a systemic and data-driven approach can generate economic, ecological and social benefits; in addition to a great focus on the sustainability of the materials used and energy efficiency. The integration of 4.0 technologies has in fact allowed the Sicilian company not only to improve its production processes, but also to obtain tax benefits thanks to incentives linked to innovation and sustainability.

In an increasingly globalized world, where agriculture is measured on an international scale, its ability to adapt quickly to climate change, market needs and new technologies represents an efficient, innovative and sustainable management model for the whole of Sicily (and beyond).
Lucchini, with its cutting-edge approach and constant support, has contributed decisively to this success, creating a partnership that goes far beyond the mere supply of hardware.

A real transfer of knowledge and expertise.
